Why I do not agree with a ban on naming mass shooters in news coverage
Many well-intentioned people are pushing journalists not to publish or broadcast the names of mass killers. The notion is that not naming them reduces the notoriety that comes with being the focus of coverage. This article includes comments from me about why it might not always be necessary to use images or even the names of shooters, to issue a blanket rule against naming the killers is short-sighted.
