After Pennsylvania School Stabbing Stabbings-What Should Journalists Focus on?
Every time another awful attacker invades a school classroom it is only natural for lawmakers and journalists to rush for solutions, usually quick-fixes.
But a quick fix in the latest attack at a Pennsylvania High School would involve something having to do with knives-and as you can see knives are nowhere near the leading weapon used in fatal assaults in the United States.
To meaningfully cover violent crime, we have to understand what it behind it, not just what weapon is used.
That is why I wrote this essay to help journalists.
